Teacher Workshop: National Archives Unplugged!
Start Date: 06/12/2007 :: 7:45 am - 5 pm

Lee Ann Potter has planned several interactive strategies that will enhance teachers' use of the National Archives while supporting student as they develop and research topics for NHD. Beth Boland of the National Park Service will do a presentation on researching "place." Her presentations are a great way to incorporated local history topics. Ann Claunch will end the day with a synthesis of how to connect Lee Ann and Beth's presentation to next year's NHD theme, Conflict and Compromise in History. Teacher Workshop: Conflict and Compromise in History: The Civil Rights Movement!
Start Date: 06/11/2007 :: 9 am - 12 pm

Although The Declaration of Independence and The Constitution set the ideals for our nation, it has been conflicting interpretations of the ideologies that has brought meaning to the words freedom and equality. Conflicting ideologies provided the setting for The Civil Rights Movement. In this session, teachers will be provided a unique opportunity to examine the movement through different perspectives. Come join us for a morning of exploring new ways of looking at The Civil Rights Movement through primary documents, discussion and a refined list of resources. This session will also include how to bridge the historical content from your classroom to student NHD research project. Click Here to Register

Moving Your Classroom Research to the Next Level!
Start Date: 06/11/2007 :: 1 - 4 pm

Veteran teachers Cynthia H. Felts, Mary Mueller and Leah Prewett, from Rolla Junior High in Rolla, Missouri, will present their award-winning NHD collaborative program. The session will be interactive and will guide the participants through utilizing NHD as a formal assessment on research and writing skills. The team will also illustrate how they have created NHD assignments that comply with state and local assessment and reporting requirements under the NCLB. The session will focus on sharing examples of activities, research guides, and assessment and include all other documentation instruments they use in the program. Click Here to Register
