The Kenneth E. Behring National History Day Contest
The Kenneth E. Behring National History Day Contest is the final stage of a series of contests at local and affiliate levels. The contest is named for Mr. Behring in recognition of his support of National History Day (NHD).
Each year nearly 3,000 students and their parents and teachers gather at the University of Maryland, College Park for the week-long event. These enthusiastic groups come from all over the United States, Guam, American Samoa, Department of Defense Schools in Puerto Rico, and international schools in China, Korea, and South Asia. The NHD excitement can be felt across the campus. After spending months on project research and preparation, and competing at local and affiliate contests, these students are eager to show their hard work at the national level.

NHD has affiliates around the world. These programs are independently sponsored by organizations that coordinate local and affiliate level contests where students can compete for the chance to advance to the National Contest. NHD’s affiliates also provide programmatic materials and workshops for teachers and students. Click here to find your affiliate.
